In October of 2007 our church held it’s annual Hallelujah Party. My friend Jill had a face painting booth as part of the event’s entertainment. I stopped by to visit and was totally fascinated with what she was doing, all the paints, beautiful colors and the line of kids! I helped her with a few cheek stamps on kids and that was when I decided to look in to face painting for myself. I had studied art in high school and various other classes so it seemed like a good fit for me.
The next week I met with Jill and she got me started with a beginner’s paint set and a lot of information. Over the next few weeks I bought many supplies, took a two-day class from Marcela Murad when she was in town, watched training videos, read many magazines devoted to face painting and practiced a lot. The more I learned and researched, I was amazed at the designs created in today’s face painting world. I spent every spare minute I had learning and practicing this new found art on a fake practice head made for face painting. My husband said I was obsessed!
I was so anxious to start painting on real people that on a few weekends I would go to the park, set up my table, and paint on kids. How exciting it was to see the kids light up with smiles when they looked in the mirror at the finished artwork.
My first real face painting job was only a couple months later when Jill asked me to help her paint at a “Puppy Dog” theme birthday party. There would be over 50 kids! Wow – I could hardly wait! The party was a success and I was definitely hooked.
Over the next couple months I decided to turn this new interest into a business and that’s how “A Face Painting Extravaganza” began.
